Operator cabins installed in Khalifa port in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Emirates, has a new harbour terminal that has seen huge growth in recent years. It concerns the Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone, which is being worked on in five phases until 2030. The Abu Dhabi Port Company is one of the users and asked Merford in 2011 to deliver six operator cabins for STS cranes.
At the beginning of 2011, Merford Cabins received the request from ZPMC Shanghai to deliver six operator cabins for STS cranes. This assignment came after a visit by Merford in 2010 to the headquarters of ADPC in Abu Dhabi. Merford presented its ideas about ergonomics, the Ergoseat, and related products here. Merford also visited a nearby harbour, APM Bahrein, where it is possible to see our STS cabin and Ergoseat in operation.
The six operator cabins are each fitted with an Ergoseat, the ergonomic solution for operators. The cabins also have an integrated heating and demisting filter system, floor windows that can be walked on, and a filter unit. Mid-2011 the cabins were delivered to ZPMC in Shanghai. After the cabins had been installed, the entire cranes were shipped to Abu Dhabi.
Merford’s crane cabins and Ergoseats are part of the new Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone (KPIZ), a large project of which the fifth and last phase will be completed in 2030. By that time the Khalifa port will have a total capacity of 15 million TEUs and 35 million tonnes for other cargo.
